Many people tend to park up the ol’ RV for the winter season, others head south for warmer climates, while others, the die hards of the bunch, continue to RV regardless of the weather! If you’re planning on RVing throughout the Okanagan this winter, we have some handy recommendations to help you make the most of our beautiful valley!
1. Road Trip!
The Okanagan valley is scenic throughout the summer months with packed beaches and no end of opportunities to explore the surrounding landscape. However, the winter months are no less scenic. If anything, the valley is turned into a winter wonderland with snow swept vistas and icy blue tones that delight as much as they chill. Take a road trip down the Okanagan Corridor and take in the sights, just make sure your vehicle or RV is properly prepared for winter driving conditions.
2. Winter Camping
While it’s not everyone’s cup of hot chocolate, there’s something special about winter camping. The feeling of waking up to crisp, cold morning air, the warmth of a campfire, building a snowman, sledding, or just enjoying the beauty of the snow-clad great outdoors. Many RV Parks and Provincial Campgrounds offer year-round camping and you can bet you won’t have to worry about overcrowding in the winter.
3. Hit All the Ski Resorts
The Okanagan has four ski resorts to explore. It might be ambitious to hit all four in a day, but you could definitely visit all of them over the course of a week. From north to south, you can visit Silver Star near Vernon, Big White near Kelowna, Apex in Penticton, and Mt. Baldy just outside of Oliver. Each has varied terrain to explore along with numerous other winter activities if skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing.
4. Snowshoeing
Walking? Through snow?! Yes, absolutely! Not only is it a fun way to get in touch with nature, it’s also great exercise, and usually comes with beautifully snow-covered scenery. There are numerous places to snowshoe in the Okanagan, including the Myra Canyon Trestles just outside Kelowna. However, if you’re looking to rent snowshoes and hike the trails all in one location, head to Telemark Nordic Club in the Glenrosa area of West Kelowna!
