Just because the back-to-school ads have already started doesn’t mean summer is over. You still have plenty of time to pack up the RV and go for another camping trip.
If you’re wondering where to go for your late summer trips, you can’t go wrong with hitting the water—your kids always remember visits to the lake or ocean, so why not squeeze in another trip to one of these lovely locations? We have heard of almost all of them, and we believe with the variety of beaches in BC we have some of the best in the country.
On The Ocean
Long Beach
One of the most famous beaches on Vancouver Island, Long Beach, and arguably the best beach in BC, lives up to its name, with 16 kilometres of sand to explore. An exceptional amount of driftwood washes up on the Pacific Ocean beach, surrounded by old-growth forests, making it an idyllic place to visit.
Jericho Beach
This beach not only has ocean views, but it also has mountain views and city views. Located in Vancouver, Jericho is one of many beaches in the area and is an excellent spot for swimming, sunbathing, and kite surfing.
Agate Beach
This gem on Haida Gwaii is for those looking to see the ocean in a unique way. Much more remote than the previous entries, Agate Beach is 100 kilometres long on the northern shore of Haida Gwaii. Many head to the island to search the beach for its namesake, agate stone, though it can be hard to spot amidst all the other rocks.
Spanish Banks
This series of beaches in BC is popular with all the sand that backs onto grassy areas, giving you options for where you want to set up. At low tide, you can walk a full kilometre out before you hit the water, which means all sorts of sea critters for the kids to see.
Freshwater lakes
Skaha beach
When folks envision Penticton, this is the beach they see in their mind’s eye. Quieter than other beaches on the lake, there are many trees for shade and plenty of sand to play and relax on.
Christina Lake
Located in Boundary Country, Christina Lake is one of the warmest tree-lined lakes in BC, making it a perfect spot to visit in the summer. You’ll have a heck of a time getting the kids out of the water, and they may even coin it the best British Columbia beach, but you’ll also be able to enjoy the natural backdrop and sunshine.
Okanagan Lake
One of the most popular lakes in BC, there are plenty of beaches to choose from. This is a water recreation paradise, with houseboats, speed boats, jet skis, and kayaking on top of all the swimming and playing on the sand you can do.
Sooke Potholes
Fresh water on Vancouver Island? It’s not as crazy as it sounds! The Sooke Potholes is a refreshing swimming spot surrounded by lush forests and hiking trails. And if you should get tired of swimming, there are plenty of trails to explore.
Off The Beaten Path
Lake O’ Hara
You’ll have to put on your hiking boots (or take the daily shuttle) to see this lake on the BC side of Yoho National Park. The lake is 11 kilometres from the trailhead, but well worth the journey to see this sensitive ecosystem.
Williston Lake
The result of an earth-filled dam built in the 1960s, Williston Lake, is the largest lake in the entire province, and it’s a drive to get there compared to other beaches in BC. Located near Hudson’s Hope, Williston Lake is an angler’s dream lake where you can catch brook, lake, bull, rainbow trout, kokanee, and northern pike.
No matter which lake or beach you visit, you’ll want the right RV to load your family into and spend the remaining summer days somewhere memorable. Each British Columbia beach has incredible private and provincial surrounding campgrounds for you and your family to explore.
